Join us in welcoming the spring equinox, Norse style. Fight in our Multi-Weapon Tournament and show your skill across 4 different fighting styles, if you are feeling lucky, try your hand at kubb and board games. There will be traditional egg decorating and games available for children, or the young at heart. After the day’s events join us for a pot-luck feast, The Branch will be providing ham, and honey glazed root vegetables.
Ostara is a time to celebrate the arrival of Spring, the renewal and rebirth of Nature herself, and the coming lushness of Summer. It is at this time when light and darkness are in balance, yet the light is growing stronger by the day. Eggs were symbols of resurrection and continuing life, as well as fertility. It was thought that the return of the sun from winter darkness was an annual miracle, and saw the egg as a natural wonder and proof of the renewal of life. The tradition of painting eggs in bright colours was to represent the sunlight of spring.
The Tournament will focus on the ability to fight in the four different styles. 1 Handed, 1 Hand and shield, 2 handed, and pikes/pole arms. An award will be given to the top fighter.
There will be a few rounds of fighting depending on the amount of fighters that come out. First round starts at 11 and the second one after Lunch.
After the Fighting and Feast, stick around for Games and Dancing. There will also be crash space available to those who wish to spend the night, but please bring a camping mattress and warm bedding as you will be sleeping indoors on concrete. There is space available for merchants and there are several confirmed for the event.
This will be the first event at the Viadrina Outpost’s new site, and we hope for both New and Old Members to join us!
