Costuming is one of the most fun aspects of the EMP. When we have events and occasionally for weekly practices, we enjoy wearing the clothing of different times and cultures. The sky is the limit, with a preference of pre-1750 inspired styles.
The term costume and garb are basically the same. Since people in the EMP make costumes for more than just a one time wearing like you might for a costume party, most people will refer to their outfits as garb.
Since the EMP offers such a wide time range of available styles and cultures you can be as simple or complicated as you desire. A tunic and belt are perfectly acceptable as are complete Persian Court Attire.
Some people enjoy wearing a variety of different types of garb. While others prefer to wear things from a specific time and place. Since the EMP goes about 150 years past most other medieval groups there is a lot more room for later period costuming.

Many of our events are themed to a specific time and place. It is highly encouraged that you wear at least on outfit to fit the specific theme. In no way is it required however. Generally, in order to promote a certain theme there may be a prize for the best costume at that event.
